Tour Overview
This 5-day Toraja journey combines the cultural highlights of South and North Tana Toraja with multi-day countryside trekking and overnight stays in traditional villages. You will explore ancient burial sites, hike through spectacular rice terraces and bamboo forests, and experience warm Torajan hospitality while staying with local families in traditional Tongkonan houses.
Day 1: South Toraja Cultural Highlights
Route: Rantepao → Lemo – Tampang Allo – Suaya – Bebo – Karuaya – Ke’te Kesu → Rantepao
Begin your Toraja experience by exploring the southern cultural highlights of Tana Toraja—often described as a living documentary of ancient traditions.
- Lemo – Visit iconic stone cliff graves with wooden Tau-Tau effigies overlooking rice fields.
- Tampang Allo – Explore a natural cave burial site containing ancient wooden coffins.
- Suaya – Discover the royal burial site of the seven noble Toraja families.
- Bebo & Karuaya – Visit traditional animistic villages surrounded by stunning countryside scenery.
- Optional walk through rice fields near Karuaya or Tampang Allo (weather and field conditions permitting).
- Ke’te Kesu – Explore one of Toraja’s most picturesque traditional villages with Tongkonan houses, rice barns, and hanging wooden graves.
In the afternoon, return to Rantepao and check in to your hotel.
Depending on ceremony schedules and your wishes, it may also be possible to attend a funeral or wedding ceremony on this day.

Day 2: Trekking to Batutumonga
Route: Rantepao → Palawa – Akung – Tinimbayo – Lempo – Batutumonga
After breakfast, drive to Palawa Traditional Village, known for its authentic Tongkonan houses and rice barns. From here, begin a full-day trek through the Toraja highlands.
- Trek through bamboo forests, mountain villages, and panoramic rice fields.
- Pass the charming villages of Akung and Tinimbayo.
- Lunch served in a scenic rice field setting.
- Continue trekking toward Lempo, famous for its postcard-perfect rice terraces seen from above.
- Arrive in Batutumonga, one of Toraja’s most scenic highland areas.
Check in at Mentirotiku Tongkonan and enjoy dinner with stunning night views over Rantepao.

Day 3: Trekking to Tinapu Village
Route: Batutumonga → Pana – Kata – Kepe – Poya – Perangian – Tinapu

- Walk through rice fields toward Kata Village.
- Continue to Kepe and the ancient village of Poya, where animistic beliefs are still practiced.
- Lunch in Perangian Village, often accompanied by cheerful local children.
- Trek through rugged landscapes toward Tinapu Village, a remote settlement surrounded by bamboo forests and the gentle sounds of the Maiting River.
In Tinapu, experience warm Torajan hospitality. Check in to a traditional Tongkonan, explore the village, and enjoy a traditional dinner prepared over a wood fire.

Day 4: Trekking to Salu Village
Route: Tinapu → Limbong – Parinding – Bela – Salu
After breakfast, continue trekking through some of Toraja’s most authentic rural landscapes.
- Walk through beautiful rice paddies surrounding Limbong Village.
- Pass Parinding, known for its many Tongkonans and traditional rice barns.
- Lunch in the forest or rice fields.
- Trek through bamboo forests and coffee, cacao, banana, papaya, and pineapple plantations.
- Possible sightings of Torajan buffaloes grazing or bathing in rivers.
Arrive in the remote mountain village of Salu, known for its peaceful atmosphere and panoramic rice terraces. Check in to your Tongkonan and enjoy a traditional dinner prepared by locals.

Day 5: North Toraja Highlights & Departure
Route: Salu → Lombok Parinding – Bori – Marante – Londa – Taana Toraya Coffee → Rantepao

- Lombok Parinding – Visit stone graves and traditional rice barns.
- Bori’ Megalithic Site – See ancient monoliths erected to honor important Torajan ancestors.
- Marante & Londa – Explore hanging coffins and cliffside burial balconies with Tau-Tau effigies.
- Taana Toraya Coffee – Enjoy Toraja’s finest locally roasted coffee while reflecting on your journey.
The tour ends in Rantepao, where you continue to your next destination.
